Training Overview

K9-Obedience School is geared towards the owner looking for one-on-one training with their dog. I offer private instruction in a variety of areas dealing with canine obedience and behavior problems.

The advantage of private-instruction versus class-instruction is class size. Group classes may have one instructor and up to (sometimes more than) twenty dogs. With private instruction, you are receiving the trainer's full, undivided attention to you and your dog's issues/obedience problems. Often, private lessons MAY cost less than an actually six-week group course and you will receive much more information and attention in a private setting.

All my private instruction is one hour in length. I also offer two 'free' phone consultations, AFTER our initial appointment.

Beginning Obedience Class

This lesson is set up for the puppy or dog with no real obedience training background. In this class I focus on teaching the dog canine manners and addressing behavior issues such as:
Chewing
Nuisance barking
Jumping up
Housetraining issues

Obedience commands are taught in the beginning stages. These commands are:
Sit
Down
Stay
Come

Advanced Obedience

This is for the dog that has mastered the above commands and is able to follow through, regardless of distractions. I would then begin to expect more of the dog in many different situations and start working the dog on a forty-foot long line. This gives you and your dog distance from each other but always remaining safe and in control. This also teaches the dog he must continue to work even if you are not by their side. This builds the dogs confidence in himself and you. I would also add the 'heel'' or 'front' command and teach the dog to 'drop' (down) when working away from you. (This can be a life-saving command. If you can 'drop' your dog, BEFORE he runs into traffic, it is lifesaving.)

Off Leash

By Instructor's permission only

Please call to make an appointment for an evaluation of your dog's obedience level. This way I can determine what is most suitable for you and your dog.

Aggression Issues

I also specialize in working with dogs that have aggression issues, as described below:

Human Aggression
Dog Aggression
Fear Aggression
Territorial Aggression
Food Aggression
Object Guarding Aggression

Schutzhund Style Obedience Training

Schutzhund Style"Fuss" (or Heel) This is a perfect picture of a young girl and her German Shepherd Dog doing a very good "Fuss". If interested in training in the German form of Schutzhund Obedience, this is a very good example of what the early stages should look like.

German Shepherd performing on a Schutzhund level 3 trail. In this phase the dog must clear the jump with the dumbbell in his mouth, without dropping the dumbbell, or touching the branches on the jump. Returning to the owner in a 'Bring'en' (Bring) in front, holding the dumbbell until the owner tells the dog to 'Aus' (out) the dumbbell.
